Section 26 of Hindu Succession Act, 1956 lays down the converse rule that the children born to the convert after his conversion and the descendants of such children cannot inherit the property of any of their Hindu relatives unless they are themselves Hindu at the time when the Succession opens.

Disinheritance as a result of conversion to another religion is only as regards children born to the Hindu after such conversion, but not in respect of the convert himself or herself.

When a person converts to another religion after death of the spouse, it would not create a bar against inheritance of the Deceased spouse’s property.
